Why This Matters:

This session is part of a bigger project to make sure Vermont’s emergency services work well for everyone. Whether you live in a city or a rural area, quick and reliable emergency services are important. Right now, Vermont’s system is a mix of different communication centers, and sometimes emergency calls get transferred too many times, which can slow down help.

The Vermont Public Safety Communications Task Force was created to fix these issues and make sure all Vermonters have equal access to emergency services. Act 78, passed in 2023, guides this work with goals like:

  • Improving communication between different emergency agencies
  • Updating technology so services work well across Vermont’s different landscapes
  • Making sure all Vermonters, including those who speak different languages, can get help in emergencies

By gathering community feedback, we’re working to make Vermont’s emergency communication system stronger and more responsive for everyone.
